Weekly farm news - 05 October 2021

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all well.

This morning on my early walk with the dogs my 'just a little too cold fingers' told me autumn is here. And it is resplendent! What a place to live..

With the carob harvest now finished we are switching to the olives. Since we moved here we have tried each year to make nicely cured olives and for one reason or another haven't succeeded. This year we have a new teacher - Maria from Cafe Mateus - so we have high hopes. If they're good they will also appear on the list in a few weeks.

This week is also the first week without my own tomatoes and cherry tomatoes. There are still some lovely red and green peppers but the yellow ones are also finished. This week in our garden the fennel, chard, lettuce, and kale are all looking good. And we have lovely young rocket leaves and Asian peppery leaves for salads etc. I've continued to prepare more beds for winter planting.. For the first time I am using a mix of compost and aged horse manure to dress the beds and first indications are this is working really well.

This week for the first time we will have some vegan nutella on the list.

Next week (starting 11/10) Veronique and I are going away for a few days. Daniel and Erin will be looking after the farm and we will organise deliveries with you as normal. We will be back for the market on 16/10.
